Of COURSE, right when I'm trying to do this contest, my e-mail gets all messed up AGAIN. Grr. I'm vexed...exceedingly vexed. If you have trouble using the hyperlinks "e-mail me" please e-mail directly to katrinakittle@gmail.com until I have the issue corrected. THANK YOU! (I am extending the contest to Wednesday July 23rd due to this problem).
HOW TO ENTER: Support your response to the question, “Is marriage still necessary?” in 500 words or less. Put “Contest” in the subject line and e-mail me! WHY?I am seeking discussion on the topic of my fourth novel, which examines the institution of marriage. In response to both the Defense of Marriage Act and several reports that marriage is “obsolete in Western culture,” the novel explores the meaning marriage has to several characters—a woman going through a divorce, her gay brother attempting to adopt a child with his partner, her parents about to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary, and her pregnant teenaged daughter soured on the idea of marriage entirely. The working title (which keeps changing) is Marriage Advice from the Church of St. Equine. DEADLINE: Monday, July 21, 2008 by 5:00 PM (EST) RESPONSES POSTED ON SITE: I will post all responses on the website, for all to share (first names and location only, such as “Christie in Canvas, West Virginia”) PRIZES: I’ll select the winners based on who I felt did the most beautiful, articulate job defending marriage (or not defending it). First prize: A tin of Killer Brownies from Dorothy Lane Market shipped to you, a copy of Anne Roiphe's Marriage: A Fine Predicament or Dan Savage's The Commitment (your choice) plus any one of my three books signed and shipped to you or whoever you wish. Second Prize:
Any two of my three books signed and shipped to you or whoever you wish. Third Prize: Any one of my three books signed and shipped to you or whoever you wish.
I HOPE TO HEAR FROM MANY OF YOU!
All three novels are now under the same publishing roof and available in boostores.
