Manuscript Evaluations
-
I charge $6 per page, with a $600 minimum.
-
I give you in-depth, detailed feedback throughout the novel (on the actual pages), as well as a lengthy summary of what is working/what the manuscript's strengths are and my suggestions for revision.
I will comment on all elements of craft, such as plot, dialogue, voice, character development, character motivation, etc. as well as any grammar issues that are getting in the way of the story you're trying to tell. I do not officially line edit, but I will mark missing words/incorrect words and any grammar and punctuation errors I see along the way.
My goal is always to help the writer make the story that they’re passionate about telling as polished as possible, and to uncover any missed opportunities in the story along the way. I can help strengthen motifs and theme, track character motivation, and help increase conflict/tension where it may be lacking.
-
I ask for a hard copy of the manuscript (if you mail it through Media Mail, it’s not too costly. I, of course, will pay to return the manuscript to you). The manuscript should be double-spaced, with one-inch margins all around, in a simple 12-point font such as Times New Roman. Please include a header with your name and title, and consecutive page numbers.
-
Once we agree on a start date, I’ll return your manuscript within two weeks of receiving it. I accept only one manuscript at a time so I can give it sole attention.
-
Email me at katrina@katrinakittle.com and we’ll talk about a start date. I’ll send you a letter of agreement to sign and ask you to pay half of my fee up front. The other half will be due when I’m ready to return the manuscript to you.
Client Testimonials
“Katrina has a powerful gift to motivate and inspire. A lot of people can tell you what's wrong with your writing, but not many can tell you how to fix it. Oftentimes she simply asked me a question . . . a brilliant question that helped me see the path my story needed to take.” —Melanie Sue Bowles, The Horses of Proud Spirit and Hoof Prints: Stories from Proud Spirit
“Katrina provided useful feedback in a safe, positive, and encouraging manner. I highly recommend Katrina to be the one to provide you with that objective perspective so necessary in the writing process. Her critique is an investment well worth making!” —Traci Ison Shafer, The Anuan Legacy
“She provided direct, pertinent, feedback on each and every page. I found that the advice she gave applied not only to the manuscript I provided, but to all of my writing.” —Tom Gumbert
“Her care and concern for elements of craft is astounding. I walked away from the experience feeling confident that if I implemented her suggestions it would elevate my writing. I highly recommend employing Katrina's writing expertise- it was worth every penny.” —Cindy Cremeans
“I don’t know how she manages to be kind and clear all at the same time, but I always learn something and I’ve never been bruised.” —Jen Messaros
