Reasons to Be Happy

My “Reasons to Be Happy” lists started with my young adult book by the same name and have become a regular feature of my newsletter, Kat’s Pajamas. They’re also the basis for my popular “Happy Class,” which you can book on demand today! My latest list will always be below!

« Luxurious Taos honey lattes from World Cup Coffee

  • Finding cool, little independent coffee shops on a roadtrip

  • Fresh-baked, blue-corn frybread at Tiwa Kitchen, just outside Taos Pueblo

  • The way aspen leaves shimmy in the wind (the tree equivalent of jazz hands)

  • Competitive Banagrams with my cousin Rhonda and Aunt Peggy (I managed to win one round.)

  • A leisurely mountain trail ride at Bar NI Ranch

  • Watching the wranglers at Bar NI Ranch bring in the herd

  • Being reunited with pets after vacation (Annie slept on me the whole first night, waking me repeatedly with her purring little head butts—I didn’t mind one bit.)

  • Getting ready in my own bathroom after being on the road

  • Realizing I’m happy to return to my own life/home after vacation (even a really, really great vacation)

  • Dark, shaded forest paths

  • Zahn McClarnon in Dark Winds (well, really, Zahn McClarnon in anything swoon)

  • The fact that bees have best friends (Researchers have discovered that bees form special friendships within their hives, preferring to hang out with and work with certain bees over others.)

  • The term “whimsymaxxing,” a noun that means the “practice of intentionally hunting for wonder, romanticizing the ordinary, and embracing playful joy”
